On Wednesday evening, supporters of the Shine the Light campaign will gather at Stratford City Hall, joining together for a silent march to protest men’s violence against women.The march’s organizers are encouraging supporters to carry flashlights and wear purple, a symbolic colour of “courage, survival and honour” that has come to represent the struggle to end women abuse.“It’s not that we’re saying that men aren’t abused,” she added, “but (a majority) of the abuse happens to women and children, and the abuser is male.” Shine the Light on Women Abuse in a now-provincewide public awareness campaign that was launched in October 2010 by the London Abused Women’s Centre.While the goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of men’s violence against women, Shine the Light also helps increase the profiles of local community agencies that support abused women.The Stop Violence Against Women Committee of Perth County has organized a silent march Wednesday at 7 p.m., starting at Stratford City Hall, as part of the Shine the Light On Violence Against Women campaign.
